FLORIDA HOSPITAL EAST ORLANDO: UCF, AdventHealth partner to identify suicide risk of ER patients

By Press release submission | | Apr 15, 2019

Florida Hospital East Orlando issued the following announcement on April 12.

AdventHealth and the University of Central Florida have teamed up to take an important step in reducing our nation’s suicide crisis. Modeled after the successful Zero Suicide Initiative, the new program provides suicidal patients with the vital resources they need, following an ER visit.

To address a rising suicide rate, the University of Central Florida and AdventHealth are working together to screen emergency-department patients for warning signs, connect those patients to help and follow up afterward.

The effort, launched in February at AdventHealth Kissimmee, targets adults who come to the emergency department for any reason and might not typically disclose suicidal thoughts or ask for help.
